Michigan History Magazine

Founded in 1917 by the Michigan Historical Commission and the Michigan Pioneer and Historical Society, Michigan History Magazine has served as a resource for documenting and sharing the state’s rich history. Originally a quarterly publication, it aimed to be “a magazine of Michigan history for Michigan people by Michigan writers,” evolving from the earlier Michigan Pioneer and Historical Collections (1874–1916). The magazine was managed by various State of Michigan departments until 2009. when it became independent steward by the Historical Society of Michigan. Today, Michigan History Magazine is published six times a year and is available through subscription or membership with the Historical Society, continuing its mission to connect Michiganders with their heritage.
